Rachel Kneisley in her office at Adult Education

Rachel Kneisley’s hard work to complete most of her academic coursework last summer paid off by getting hired — and then promoted — at Adult Education this year.

The Paint Valley senior was recommended to Adult Education Director Carrie Fife by Darcie Scott, Rachel’s Health Administration instructor.

“Carrie stopped by my classroom looking for a student to potentially fill a front desk vacancy at Industrial Drive,” Darcie said. “After she explained the position to me, I immediately thought of Rachel.”

Rachel was hired as the receptionist in September and Carrie promoted her to Administrative Assistant last month.

Rachel said she chose to attend Pickaway-Ross because “I knew that I wanted to get my foot in the door with a career” and Health Administration caught her eye.

“I’ve always wanted to be the person you see when you walk into the hospital (or a medical office) and be the person who helps others.” Now she is that person for Adult Education program coordinators and students.

“Rachel has been a great addition to our team,” Carrie said. “She’s been able to professionally handle whatever tasks we’ve given her.”

Darcie is not surprised that Rachel is flourishing in her job.

“She was one of my hardest workers in my senior lab. She was professional, always on time, always had her work completed and could be trained easily.

“She was just one of those really good students who you hate to see leave for job placement because you will miss them, but you also want to see them succeed and follow their dreams.”

Rachel said what she learned in her career program has prepared her for her job, specifically communication.

Darcie said that is one of the benefits of her program.

“Not only do we teach the medical components to the career, but we also focus a lot on customer service, telephone skills, written communication skills, scheduling appointments and just dealing with people as a whole.  She excelled at all of those. She will excel at anything she sets her mind to.”

After completing high school this spring, Rachel hopes to continue working at Adult Education.
