Students in the Ross County Sports Medicine program recently completed a six-week Neurobiks exercise program at the Cavalier Athletic Center, helping community members age 50 and older stay active while gaining valuable real-world experience themselves.

The program focused on strengthening the mind-body connection through exercises targeting reaction time, balance, strength, and mobility. Seniors in the Sports Medicine program fully developed, promoted, and facilitated the twice-weekly classes.

Beyond exercise instruction, students gained hands-on experience in leadership, communication, teamwork, exercise correction, and community engagement. Over the course of the program, students grew more confident working with older adults while forming meaningful relationships with participants.

Community feedback highlighted both the positive atmosphere and the impact students made. One participant shared, “I was very happy with the class, all the students were so happy to help me. The exercises have helped me feel better and made my jobs at home easier.”

Another participant added, “They were all leaders and will do fantastic things in their lives”, while another praised “all the fun games you added to our workouts.”

Experiences like these prepare students for future careers in healthcare, wellness, and sports medicine while reinforcing the importance of compassion, adaptability, and connection.

As part of the #Next50, Pickaway-Ross continues to create opportunities that help students become future-ready, both professionally and personally, while strengthening our communities, sometimes literally.
