Construction Tech Students Build Custom Countertop for Shawnee Lanes Pro Shop
When Shawnee Lanes Entertainment Center began remodeling its pro shop, it turned to local talent, and our Construction Technologies students were up for the challenge.
Students designed and built a custom countertop for the newly renovated space as part of their hands-on training. From cutting and assembling materials to finishing and installing the final piece, students were involved in every step of the process, gaining valuable real-world experience.
This was an excellent opportunity for our students to apply their skills outside the classroom and create something that will be used by the community every day.
The finished product is now in place at Shawnee Lanes, serving as a functional and professional highlight of the pro shop remodel — and a proud example of career-technical education in action.

Pickaway-Ross is now CLOSED on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

Recently, students from Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center had the exciting opportunity to attend the Ohio National Guard Career Day at the Chillicothe Armory. Alongside students from other area schools, they were able to explore a variety of career pathways available through the National Guard.
The event provided an immersive experience, with hands-on demonstrations and the chance to learn about the numerous roles and benefits the Guard offers. From military service to specialized technical careers, students got a firsthand look at how the Ohio National Guard can help shape their futures.
We are proud to see our students actively exploring career opportunities and gaining insights into how their skills and interests could lead to a fulfilling career, whether in the Guard or beyond.

Yesterday, at the RCCE Veterans Day ceremony, Kyra Beaty-Bruce and Adison Muntz from my Voices of Freedom class honored veterans JR Hougland (Navy) and Doug Fyffe (Army). Both received a wooden flag, quilt, and handmade knife as tokens of appreciation.
JR, a Cold War veteran I’ve worked with since 2015, has been instrumental in connecting our students with veterans for the Veterans History Project. His niece, Jodi Hougland, RCCE Executive Director, presented him with a plaque and picture. Beth Johnson from Honor Flight Columbus recognized JR for helping over 100 veterans participate in Honor Flight.
Doug Fyffe, a Vietnam veteran and uncle of student Preston Newberry, was interviewed last week by Preston. Although Preston couldn’t attend, Kyra and Adison ensured he was recognized.
Special thanks to Seth Kellenberger for arranging a donated flag for JR and to Angie Saxton for providing the flag for Mr. Fyffe.

Students in our Visual Communication & Design program recently had the opportunity to visit The Modern College of Design for an inspiring day of exploration and hands-on learning.
During their tour, students explored the college’s campus and discovered what it’s like to pursue a future in the design industry. They also participated in creative workshops, putting their design skills to the test in real-world scenarios.
This visit allowed our students to see the wide range of opportunities available to them in graphic design, digital media, and other creative fields, while inspiring them to continue honing their talents. These future designers are well on their way to making their mark in the creative world!

Last week, Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague toured Pickaway-Ross CTC, honoring our 50 years of shaping Ohio’s workforce! He visited our Commercial Carpentry and Health Science labs, as well as our on-campus coffee shop, getting an inside look at how we’re helping students reach their fullest potential. Huge thanks to our amazing administrators & faculty for showing how we’re preparing the next generation of skilled professionals!
